BTC Wires: The sports industry has embraced blockchain quite consistently, and the latest move by UEFA symbolizes the same. In a Press Release dated August 16th, 2018, UEFA announced that they had successfully piloted a blockchain based ticketing system to sell tickets for the Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in Tallinn, Estonia, which took place on the 15th of August.
Duplication of tickets is a major concern for the UEFA, which this new system of transparent ticketing will immediately resolve. Blockchain ensures that tickets cannot be replicated and that they are bought and sold in a safe and secure manner, without any trickery involved. This new blockchain based mobile app is available on both iOS and Android platforms.
This new system was successfully put to use during the 2018 UEFA Europa League final in Lyon in May, and the stats say that 50 percent of the tickets for that match were sold via this new system. After the roaring success of this new technology, the Association had decided to use this app to sell tickets for the August 15th match, and they claim that “100% of the match tickets” were sold over this platform. This can only mean that this new system is here to stay. UEFA indicated that by saying:
“UEFA is looking to make its ticket sales process for matches more simple and safe — thanks to a new system aimed at providing secure ticket distribution, and which prevents the replication and duplication of tickets.”
