If you are a fan of Jonathan Nolan’s very popular show Westworld, or Avengers for that matter, then you would agree that part of their charm is the highly sophisticated special effects that go into their making. Otoy, a Los Angeles-Based cloud graphing company has done excellent work with these two productions. They created softwares which made the special effects that went into the making of these two.
The graphic work and special effects that we see in movies and shows on a daily basis, has become such an integral part of the movie and gaming industry that people spend truckloads of money to get these effects in their content. It is a complex process that requires time, money and equipment,
However, Otoy has a different take on this. They want to make graphic designing and special effects an inclusive industry which could allow amateurs to make special content that is sophisticated. With this aim, they have launched RNDR, which would assemble millions of unused PCs and their graphics capabilities with the use of blockchain, cloud graphing and cryptocurrency technologies. This would allow everyday users to generate sophisticated images within minutes.
This would essentially save time, money and labour, oodles of which, generally go into the complicated process. The economy of 3D assets, which would thus emerge could be then put on the market to sell and trade in a decentralized fashion. It could then be hosted on the cloud and other shared hardware.
The CEO of Otoy, Jules Urbach, is positive that blockchain can be immensely useful in this process. The company held an Initial Coin Offering for Render Token which is basically a blockchain-based currency that investors can put their money on. It basically is a distributed graphics processing unit (GPU) rendering network. What artists can essentially do is send in all their work to be rendered and then the software would get the final work done for them.
According to Urbach Render could solve a lot of problems for people. What he essentially did was come up with “a few ideas and patents around getting this to run through the millions of graphics cards that were out there.” Thus utilizing the power of Octane for rendering, he completely transformed the game.
RNDR is currently available and effectively grants access to the largest graphics processing unit (GPU) cloud network in the world to everyday creators. There is a growing demand for the use of virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and other complex graphics, and RNDR would help in bridging the demand-supply gap that currently exists.
