At about 22:30 UTC, on October 22, 2018, Musk, who is one of the most famous personalities on Twitter,  tweeted : “I love anime”.

The same thread saw him make another comment, about half an hour later, where he purportedly asked his followers if they want to buy some Bitcoin. The thread, unsurprisingly, went viral and became popular on the social media network, garnering as much as 3,000 retweets and about 8,000 likes from fellow Twitterati.

The image in question was initially developed by the anime character website, Cryptocurrency Girls, which has transformed famous digital currencies into anime.

Interestingly, Musk has been on many occasions impersonated by fraudsters, who have attempted to sell fake cryptocurrency giveaways to the unsuspecting individuals. No wonder, this time around too, the mention of Bitcoin got many wondering if Musk’s account had been hacked.

The tweets by Elon Musk aroused the interest of many individuals from the crypto community and some of the famous personalities on the social media network, like Zhao Changpeng, engaged with the ‘cryptic’ post. Founder of Binance, world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, tweeted jokingly, “Lol, it’s spreading. I will buy a Tesla if you accept crypto…”

Another famous person who engaged with Elon’s post was Dovey Wan, Founder at Primitive Ventures and Former Managing Director at Danhua Venture Capital. In reply to the tweet, Wan wrote light heartedly, “I’m taking Elon off from my list of most bannable Twitter accounts.”
