Nike To Trademark “Cryptokicks” For New Platform

Footwear and sports apparel major Nike has filed an application for getting a trademark on the newly coined word “Cryptokicks” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office recently. The company filed the application on 19th of April, 2019.

The term is expected to be used for building a platform of the trademarked name that will offer users the ability to use new crypto wallets and also download mobile apps for using crypto collectibles, application tokens and crypto-based art. Apparently, Nike so plans to run and operate a new e-commerce site or an online marketplace that would sell footwear and clothing, categories of goods the company is already deeply familiar with.

As of now, the application has been accepted by the authorities because it fulfills the minimum acceptability criteria but has not yet been assigned to an examiner. The document submitted clearly lists plans to come out with a digital currency or token that will be used to facilitate transactions over the platform by members of the online community. The document also refers to the use of an “unconventional currency systems”.

Nike has given more details as to how the brand name Cryptokicks will be used. It will apparently be used to provide online blogs in the crypto collectible sector and in providing users the facility to play cool online computer games such as treasure hunts, scavenger hunts and obstacle courses.

Josh Gerben, an attorney from the US has taken to Twitter to tell the world about his analysis of the application. He said that “Cryptokicks” is expected to be used as a proper registered brand name and that, with Nike having filed the application under “1B” rules, it means that the company has sworn that they will definitely be using the trademark for official use very soon.

Clearly, this is an exciting development that will give us many more reasons to celebrate. So stay tuned to know how Nike develops its “kickass” idea!
