BTC Wires: With every passing day, Blockchain technology is gaining more momentum and is expanding more in terms of mass acceptance. It seems that government authorities across the globe are trying to truly understand the potential of this technology. Our news today floats in from the University of California in San Diego, where the US Government has decided to aid blockchain technology yet again, by providing funds worth over $800,000 for the development of a distributed ledger platform.
This funding has been granted to Subhashini Sivagnanam who is a researcher and software architect at the San Diego Supercomputing Centre. Subhashini has been working at the Data Enabled Scientific Computing division, and has bagged $818,433 from the National Science Foundation(NSF) on account of developing an Open Science Chain(OSC). For those that are wondering what an OSC is or what it is trying to achieve, as per the NSF’s website, it is a proposed distributed ledger that his targeting to provide assistance to researchers in order to efficiently access and attest data which is collected through scientific experiments.
Since the NSF has a long history of coming up with some groundbreaking researches, they’ve emerged a pioneering figure with respect to utilising the federal resources within the U.S. Having already funded several blockchain technology projects in the past like those focusing on cryptocurrency incentive mechanism and over a dozen use cases based on blockchain technology, this initiative now complements the interest of the government organisation in blockchain technology even more. According to public records generated by the project:
“A web-based cyberinfrastructure platform built using distributed ledger technologies that allows researchers to provide metadata and verification information about their scientific datasets and update this information as the datasets change and evolve over time in an auditable manner.”
Cascading down to a conclusive stand, the project aims to create a network that would make up for a living, as well as digital record of their workings, and will extend with the development and addition of more research information. Thus, the project will enable researchers to infer data better while conducting studies based on abstracts.
