IOTA Network To Be Completely Decentralized

Recently, IOTA Foundation published a detailed clarification of what the Coordinator, which is a centralized synchronization node in the IOTA network, will be replaced with.

As per the clarification, the Coordinator centralized node is currently used to choose legitimate transactions in the Tangle DAG-based information structure. Accordingly, the Coordinator chooses which transactions need to be included in the next blocks and which ones should be rejected.

But since the Coordinator is just an interval solution for the decentralized circle, IOTA Foundation chose to replace it with a plan operated by consensus’ own rationale. The new solution is called Coordicide and based on the goals of contentions between transactions proposed by network participants utilizing a voting framework.

More or less, it will be an exchange of feelings between nodes –

“Every node will be able to request/reply to a randomly selected set of nodes what they think about the conflicting transactions. Every time a node requires other random node’s opinion is a round. After a sufficient number of rounds is reached, nodes decide which transaction is valid and the consensus arrives to finality.”

5 Stages to Decentralization

So as to accomplish such a crucial milestone, 5 steps to decentralization are proposed. Right off the bat, each exchange of information will incorporate sender’s ID and, in case nodes maliciously meddle with the consensus they can without much of a stretch be distinguished and rebuffed. This self-control alternative will be joined by the Mana reputation management system. Users will get Mana for reasonable behavior and lose it if something isn’t right with their network activity.

Additionally, the Auto-Peering mode will re-consider the procedure of the nodes connections among one another. To keep the system from congestion brought about by spam, Rate Control will be actualized. This will alter the measure of work a node must do so as to process transactions considering its throughput and transaction processing volume.

At the last step, the contentions will be settled through voting organized by the IOTA-designed Fast Probabilistic Consensus.
