Ethereum Foundation backs Spruce’s vision for decentralized identification

Spruce hopes its Ethereum-powered sign-in system offers a decentralized alternative to the data-harvesting identity services offered by tech giants.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) are backing a planned system for secure sign-in exploitation Ethereum from decentralized identity software firm Spruce.

Spruce’s system was elite when EF and ENS submitted a letter of invitation for Proposals in July month encouraging developers and software corporations to propose a sign-in package using Oauth — an open criteria for access delegation.

A Sept. 13 announcement states that the firm aims to provide users management of their own on-line identities, giving an alternative to returning one’s personal data to the likes of Google, Apple, and Facebook.

Spruce notes that the Ethereum system “already has tens of several monthly active case users singing  with their cryptographic keys for financial transactions, community governance, and more,” adding:

“The security of those wallets has been proved across billions of dollars of digital assets at stake — not theoretical security, however real tests in production. These secure wallets may also be accustomed to sign on to Web2 services.”

Spruce can work closely with ENS and also the Ethereum Foundation to confirm that its resolution is compatible with existing standards used throughout the Ethereum system, emphasizing that “the outcome is going to be friendly to implementers while remaining vendor-neutral.”

“By standardizing this progress, several Ethereum users are going to be able to use a digital identity that they totally manage to seamlessly access online,” the team declared.

Spruce further said that it’s already begun to deliver a best-practices survey, user analysis, specification drafts, and reference implementation.

In July, Cointelegraph reported that crypto payments associated identity management platform Numio had developed an app that enables users to verify their identity to net services while not causing any sensitive info. Numio’s system uses zero-knowledge proofs to cryptographically verify the info.
