The US Midterm Elections are done and the results are here. The Congress has been won by the Democrats whereas the Republicans still maintain control over the Senate. Amidst all the new leaders, there is one who is giving crypto enthusiasts a reason to cheer.
The newly appointed Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, who also happens to be the State’s first openly gay man to win a seat, is greatly known for his pro-cryptocurrency attitudes.
Polis has always been really vocal about his support for cryptocurrency, during his election campaign. He has advocated greater use of blockchain in his own State for various sectors. he spoke of different companies using blockchain technology, and the benefits of that, during his campaign.
He has had plans for a while now to collaborate with Colorado officials and facilitate the use of blockchain technology to enhance municipal and county elections. Now that he is Governor, his plans can become reality for the State.
Polis has made his intentions clear, that he wants to build “statewide safe harbor designed to exempt cryptocurrencies from state money transmissions laws.”
According to Polis, building such safe harbours would essentially enable further protection for “open blockchain tokens.” A more safer environment for such tokens would mean that more innovatve companies will move to the state and engage freely “without the licensing requirements of the multitude of securities and currency laws.” This will harbour greater innovation and experimentation in the state.
Polis wants to “establish Colorado as a national hub for blockchain innovation in business and government.” This could be a great step ahead for the state since blockchain could really add a boost to some of the industrial sectors.
According to his campaign speeches, Poli also has ideas to build and develop blockchain-based energy solutions, as well as the use of public ledgers to encourage transparency for government records.
