The Blockchain gaming industry witnesses another milestone with the release of ‘Plague Hunters’ on PlayStation 4.
Plague Hunters is developed by the company Arcade Distillery. The company has developed several titles of the game for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS Vita, PS4. Company representatives have claimed that the game is developed on Ethereum.
The Arcade Distiller’s website states that Plague Hunters is a single player role-playing game (RPG), and it comes with few PvP elements. The prequel to the game was the highly successful Plague Road which was launched in May 2017.
The Arcade Distillery’s website further mentions that one can can build their army of hunters, and consequently prepare them for battle by training them appropriately. Players can trade their hunters on the marketplace.
Plague Hunters is free and comes with a Peer to Peer transaction marketplace. Sony has passed the game through its review process and according to the company Plague Hunters satisfies all requirements of PS4. Interestingly, it is the first ever Blockchain based game that has received such approval from the company.
The notable part about Plague Hunters is that one can purchase assets such as weapons, outfits, as well as Hunters in the game by paying in Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs). While the Nintendo Switch and PC versions are currently under development, the game will be launched successfully in early 2019. Xbox and mobile releases are also on the cards.
Recent months have witnessed the influx of various Blockchain-based games such as the ‘Gods Unchained’. The game will hit the beta phase in few weeks after it was marred by scalability issues since its early development. We also saw the surge in the popularity of ‘Hash Rush’ which is also built on the Ethereum Blockchain. The game uses on-chain transactions as well as Non Fungible Token model for the exchange of the assets. Interestingly, the gameplay is processed off-chain.
